Hurry up for postal votes

Time is running out for voters who want to vote by post at the Parliamentary elections next month.

Registered voters who find it difficult to get to a polling station on Election Day who are away on holiday on May 6 or those who simply prefer to vote in the comfort of their own home need to get their request in by April 20.

Postal vote packs will start going out from Wednesday April 21 up until Friday April 23.

Mandy Bebb, Swansea Council Electoral Registration Officer, said: “Swansea Council has worked hard to promote the postal vote to boost turnout at elections.

“In 1996 we only had 3,000 electors voting by post and now we are up to 27,000 and rising.

“The postal vote gives electors the opportunity to sit down and think about who they are going to vote for; it’s so easy and safe.

“I would urge voters who may not be able to get to their polling station on May 6 or would rather vote from the comfort of their own home to take the opportunity to vote by post.”

If you apply for a postal vote you receive a postal vote pack which will include your ballot paper and instructions.

All you have to do is decide who you wish to vote for, fill in the ballot paper, have your identity signed for by a family member, friend or neighbour and post it back in the freepost envelope provided.
