Illyrias Twelfth Night open air performance at Cilgerran Wildlife Centre

Illyria, the UK’s top touring outdoor theatre company are celebrating their 20th birthday this year! They make their annual return to Cilgerran on Sunday 3 July to perform Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night on a picturesque performance site overlooking the Teifi Marshes at the Welsh Wildlife Centre.

Illyria have been bringing top quality entertainment to local audiences for well over a decade, so it’s time to pack a picnic and sit back and enjoy as they as they turn their attentions to a timeless comic masterpiece –  William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, one of the greatest of all English comedies.

Following a shipwreck, Viola is washed ashore in Illyria, a country where everything is illogical, delirious, and completely topsy turvy.  It could all end in tears – even if most of them are of laughter!  Illyria presents an evening of romance, music and sheer and utter joy, performed on a stage inspired by those of the mediaeval touring  troupes.

The cast Illyria bring for Twelfth Night are an experienced and intrepid band of professional actors who perform Shakespeare’s plays entirely uncut and direct from the First Folio, the most authoritative edition of Shakespeare’s plays. Illyria’s Twelfth Night is fast, fun and spoken beautifully (uniquely among open- air theatre companies Illyria’s artistic director has published articles on verse-speaking) and scholars on both sides of the Atlantic agree that Illyria’s performance style is the most  authentically Elizabethan to be seen!  So don’t miss them perform this, one of the greatest of Shakespeare’s comedies!
