Important Information for Local Election Nominees

The local elections are rapidly approaching with May 3rd only weeks away.  For those wishing to stand there has been an important change in a key nomination form.

An updated consent to nomination form has now been produced for the nomination pack that must be used in order for nominees to be put forward to stand in May’s election.  It is important that all potential candidates submit the correct pack to stand in the election.

Candidates can return the updated pack to the Council from 28th March to 12:00 on the 4th April.  Council officers will be checking the forms and if the incorrect form has been submitted, contact will be made to make amendments as required.  Staff will be working as hard as possible to ensure that this process runs smoothly.

If you have any queries about the updated form please contact the Electoral Services team on 029 20872034 or [email protected]

The Electoral Commission, the independent elections watchdog, is offering training sessions for people wishing to stand as independent candidates in this year’s local government elections in Wales.

The training session will take place in the Orbit Centre, Merthyr Tydfil on Thursday 22 March at 6:30pm.

The sessions will focus on all aspects associated with standing for election including nominations, campaigning, the count and election spending and will include detailed presentations from Commission staff as well as from the Returning Officer at Merthyr Tydfil Council.

Anyone wishing to attend should contact the Electoral Commission on 02920 346800. These events are free and further sessions will be arranged if there is a high demand.
