Denbighshire County Council is one of only two authorities in North Wales and one of only four Local Authorities in the whole of Wales to be on track to deliver the Welsh Housing Quality Standard to all of its housing stock in 2013.
A report published by the Welsh Audit Office “Progress in Delivering the Welsh Housing Quality Standard” identified that Denbighshire is making excellent progress in delivering the Welsh Housing Quality Standard and will achieve 100% compliance in 2013.
The work has included replacement kitchens, new bathrooms, rewiring work, modern central heating systems introduced, as well as replacement windows and doors.
The final programme of works is due to commence from April, with the first part of the work involving internal improvements to properties in the Denbigh and Henllan areas, with phases two and three later this year seeing work carried out in rural villages and towns , including Ruthin, Corwen and Llangollen.
Peter McHugh, Denbighshire’s Head of Housing Services, said: “Tenant satisfaction remains excellent, our most recent survey found that 99% of our tenants were happy with the work completed in their homes, and we expect a similar response from tenants during our current phase of works.
“The authority is currently appointing specialist surveyors to undertake a stock condition survey which will inform the asset management plan and stock business plan, to make sure more improvements are delivered.
“This will ensure that the Welsh Housing Quality Standard will be maintained over the 30 year business planning period. All in all a very good deal for tenants in Denbighshire”.
