Llantrisant’s Model House Craft and Design Centre is showcasing its debut exhibition under the direction of new curator, Becky Williams.
Becky has taken over the tenancy of the ground floor at The Model House from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. The area includes a new gallery where the first exhibition is currently on show.
For her inaugural show; Becky has decided to exhibit, re-worked retro furniture and quirky homeware by artist Kirsty Patrick and new canvas prints by Jason Davies.
Kirsty Patrick is a designer/maker who transforms and customise vintage furniture, including old G-Plan chairs and 1960’s dressers by giving them a new lease of life with a fabric twist.
While inspiration for Jason Davies includes 1950s floral prints, Andy Warhol’s 60’s silkscreens and currently prize flower show arrangements.
The combined work has all helped to keep a “recycle retro theme” going throughout the whole exhibition.
Becky Williams explained, “The space is compact, so large work like Jason’s floral canvases are really challenging to hang. Kirsty’s work fits easily into our awkward corners.
“The gallery has a long history and reputation for showing world class contemporary ceramics, textiles, jewellery and fine arts, so the pressure to maintain such a high level is certainly foremost in my mind”.
The exhibition runs at The Model House, Llantrisant until 7th November and is open to the public Wednesday to Saturday from 10.30am to 5pm and Saturdays 11am to 4pm.
Following the tireless efforts of staff at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Corporate Estates section, all of the studios in the Model House are now fully let by arts and crafts tenants. There are also Conference facilities and classrooms available for hire. For information on bookings contact 01443 665000.
