Heavy snow in RCT has led to the closure of the three mountain roads today (Wednesday, January 6, 2010).
Maerdy, Rhigos and the Bwlch have been closed for safety reasons as staff from across the authority work to deal with the impact of the bad weather.
All of the county’s schools are expected to remain closed today.
Refuse and recycling collections have also been suspended for safety reasons, due to the icy conditions on the road.
All collection staff have been redeployed to urgent work such as gritting and pavement clearance.
The county’s network was gritted at midnight and is due to be covered again today and throughout the day to keep the main roads as safe and passable as possible.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council staff are urged to make their way to their nearest council office to report for work, and to not put themselves in danger in order to reach their usual place of work. The nearest council office includes libraries and customer care centres.
