Chief Constable of Gwent Police, Mick Giannasi has welcomed the publication of the 2008/09 Analysis of Policing and Community Safety (APACS) performance data by the Home Office today.
Over the last 12 months Gwent Police has demonstrated improvements across the board in how it delivers local policing and has achieved a marked increase in public confidence and satisfaction.
- The percentage of the public who think the police in Gwent are doing a good job has increased by over 8% – the largest increase of any force in England and Wales.
- The percentage of users that are satisfied with the overall service provided by Gwent Police has increased by over 3%.
- Satisfaction of minority ethnic groups with the overall service provided to them by Gwent Police has increased by over 8%
- Satisfaction of victims of racist incidents with the overall service provided by Gwent Police has increased by 8%.
- The value of assets recovered by the Force has increased from £2888 to £3750 per 1000 members of the population.
The Force has also seen a reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured in road traffic collisions and a reduction in the percentage of prolific offenders re-offending.
Chief Constable Mick Giannasi commented:
“This data is extremely encouraging and illustrates the significant strides the Force has made in policing and raising public confidence across Gwent.
Although we never become complacent and are always making efforts to improve the service we deliver to local communities, it is pleasing to see an increase in the number of people satisfied with the standard of service they have received from local officers. Gwent’s figure is actually above the average for our most similar forces.
The British Crime Survey and all-Wales survey also shows that confidence amongst local communities is continuing to grow and a recent HMIC inspection recognised Gwent Police as one of the best performing forces in England and Wales in terms of delivering on our policing pledge commitments.
These results are a testament to the work of the officers and staff throughout the organisation who are committed to delivering the high level of service people quite rightly expect from us.”
