Budding young artists have been getting inspired by the story of the motor car in Wales.
Scores of young people have spent over 25 hours so far of their free time preparing art work to form part of Swansea Museum’s latest exhibition, “The Road Ahead” which charts the impact of motoring on Wales.
The increasingly popular MAST (Making Art in the Summer Time) workshops are running at Swansea Museum until 14th August and are run by Swansea Council’s Out of School Hours Team and Swansea Museum.
Trish Nicholls, the MAST co-ordinator for Swansea Museum said: “This is a great opportunity for young people to engage with topical and environmental issues on a creative and educational level.
“The MAST workshops are extremely popular and have proved to be a stepping stone onto greater artistic pursuits.”
This is the sixth year MAST, in partnership with artist David Marchant and Swansea Museum, has been running thanks to Swansea Council’s Skool’s Out programme and it has been going from strength to strength.
Mark Gosney, the Council’s Out of School Hours Learning Co-ordinator said: “Skool’s out is all about providing as many different activities for children and young people in the holidays and MAST is an excellent example of that.
“It’s a truly unique opportunity and being delivered by professional artists makes it even better.”
Workshop artist David Marchant added: “This is an opportunity for MAST participants to create something conceptual and redefine their perceptions of what art can be.”
The exhibition, which will be open to the public on August 14th, will showcase all the amazing and creative pieces of art they have made.
“MAST has inspired my artwork and improved my media skills over the six years that I have been attending. It is a rich and creative environment, ” said 16 year old participant Emelye Buck.
