Inspirational Welsh youth work projects – and the leaders who run them – have received recognition through a new national awards scheme. Four initiatives, chosen for their ability to educate and empower young people and five youth leaders were presented with awards at the Youth Work in Wales Excellence Awards ceremony held on Thursday 18th March in Cardiff.
Peter Fox, WLGA spokesperson for Lifelong Learning said:
“Young people make an invaluable contribution to our communities and the Youth Work in Wales Excellence Awards give recognition to the hard work and dedication of Wales’s youth workers who are committed to ensuring that younger people’s issues are kept at the forefront of local authority policy and service development.”
“Managed by local authorities, the Welsh Assembly Government and the Voluntary Youth service, the awards scheme has been designed to showcase innovative projects and the inspiring individuals who work tirelessly to provide education opportunities to young people.”
Speaking after the ceremony Huw Lewis, Deputy Minister for children said:
““There are more than 20,000 youth workers in Wales, each and every one helping to make a difference to the lives of local young people through their support and encouragement.
“The Youth Work Wales Excellence Awards have been to recognise and reward youth projects and youth workers’ innovation, dedication and hard work. We must celebrate and highlight the vital work they do to transform young people’s lives and help ensure that they have a better future.”
