Rhondda Cynon Taf residents can now benefit from the Council’s Heat and Save scheme – an energy-saving initiative which is one of the first of its kind in the UK.
An innovative partnership has been formed between Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Mark Group Ltd in order to offer residents cavity wall and loft insulation at highly discounted rates.
The Council’s new energy partner, The Mark Group Ltd, are offering Rhondda Cynon Taf residents a special rate of £99 for loft and cavity wall insulation purchased.
To encourage participation in their new Heat & Save initiative, the Council is offering a further discount of £25 on the first 1,600 loft or cavity wall insulation purchased Meaning residents who make an early application for this excellent offer will pay only £74 for each insulation measure.
The discounts will be issued on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and the eligibility criteria are simple – any owner occupier or private landlord is eligible to claim discounts offered by the Heat and Save scheme.
The scheme is in operation until March 31, 2010 but demand is likely to be high so residents are encouraged to act quickly to take advantage of the excellent discounts
Cllr Paul Cannon, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Housing, said: “Residents usually pay anything from £150 upwards for loft or wall insulation, so we are really pleased with Heat and Save.
“The fact a local authority has joined forces with an energy partner to offer subsidised prices means this scheme is one of the first of its kind and we are pleased to be leading the way when it comes to supporting our residents to insulate their homes, thereby improving housing stock, reducing energy usage and fuel bills.
“We do expect demand to be high for this and urge people who are interested to make contact as soon as possible so we can help as many people as possible.
Bill Rumble, Mark Group Director, said: “This is an excellent offer for residents in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Our energy advisors are keen to spread the word about the offer which is easily available to all homeowners, and significantly reduces the cost of insulation improvements.”

The new scheme with Mark Group is complemented by Rhondda Cynon Taf’s newly-launched pilot scheme to provide grants for owner-occupiers with a household income of up to £20,021 a year, and who do not qualify for other grants targeted at those on very low incomes or benefits, but are still at risk of falling into fuel poverty.
The new Insulation Grant will cover 100 per cent of the costs of cavity wall and loft insulation.
Again, the scheme has been launched to improve the quality of housing stock and help residents to reduce their fuel bills to ensure fuel poverty is reduced.
