Investment in children and young people’s education in Denbighshire is amongst the highest in Wales – and that’s official.
Figures released by the Welsh Assembly Government show that Denbighshire is spending £4,044 per pupil in 2010/2011, joint fifth highest authority in Wales for spending (with Gwynedd). The only authorities spending more are Ceredigion, Blaenau Gwent, Cardiff and Carmarthenshire.
The figure in Denbighshire compares favourably to the Welsh average spend per pupil of £3,864.
Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Lifelong Learning, said: “These figures reflect the commitment there is in Denbighshire to improve the education and achievement of our children and young people.
“We have worked tirelessly as an authority with our schools to respond positively to the Estyn report and raising standards in our schools continues to be one of the council’s main priorities.
“To do that we must make sure that we invest money in our children’s education and this year’s investment is the highest ever. The fact that we are one of the best authorities in Wales for investing in education shows how serious we are in Denbighshire about improving attainment at all levels and aiming to have one of the best education systems in the whole of Wales.”
