Investment in Caerphilly Schools

CaerphillySchools across Caerphilly county borough are in line to benefit from improvements to buildings and facilities.

Caerphilly County Borough Council has made £1.42m available to support a range of projects including new classrooms, improving the physical structure of school buildings, the demolition of demountable classrooms, electrical works, asbestos removal works, and improvements to school security and health and safety. Funding has been made available through the authority’s education capital budget for 2014/15.

Among the schools seeing the biggest investments are Abercarn Primary (additional classroom), Bedwas Infants (renew flat roof), Plasyfelin Primary (roof upgrade) and Ystrad Mynach Primary (roof upgrade).

The council has also made £172,000 available for 50/50 schemes with schools to support work at numerous primary and secondary schools across the county borough.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education & Lifelong Learning, said: “It is imperative that our children are able to learn in adequate teaching and learning environments, and this investment will help us ensure our pupils are educated in fit for purpose facilities.”
