Commenting on today’s figures on spend per family across the UK, Shadow Social Justice Minister Mark Isherwood AM said:
“These figures raise concerns about levels of debt poverty which exist across the country, particularly given the fact that the unemployment rate in Wales is the highest of any UK nation.
“They also underline the growing prosperity gap between Wales and other parts of the United Kingdom despite a decade in which the Assembly’s budget has doubled and Wales has received billions in EU aid.
“Labour’s recession and Gordon Brown’s tax rises – coupled with things like higher energy bills – means families have less to spend, more are getting into debt, and more risk falling into poverty.”
