Commenting on figures showing a 9% increase in the number of homeless households requiring temporary accommodation in the past 12 months, Mark Isherwood AM, Shadow Minister for Social Justice and Housing, said:
“These worrying figures show that homelessness across Wales is on the rise.
“The situations which result in families and individuals becoming homeless are obviously distressing and can have a negative impact on their wellbeing.
“Labour-Plaid Cymru Ministers need to work closely with local authorities, housing associations, home builders, private sector landlords and social letting agencies to ensure that systems are in place to rehouse the rising numbers in temporary accommodation in an efficient way to limit distress to families.
“Ministers need a joined up strategy to help those at risk of losing their home, using all the tools available to promote the availability of affordable housing and taking measures to help businesses create jobs.”
