The award winning Japan Day has been organised by Central Library team in partnership with local Japanese community members, businesses and local institutions, and promises to provide an intriguing insight into Japanese traditions.

Locals can participate in an array of free events taking place from 11 am – 4pm at the Library including a Bon Odori folk dance, Tea Ceremony, Kendo Martial Art, Piano & Music Ensemble, Calligraphy & Origami and Manga & Animation workshop. Japanese literature will take centre stage with story telling by local storyteller Richard Berry accompanied by Koto musician, Hiroko.

As if that was not enough to wet your appetite for all things Japanese, there will also be Japanese inspired cuisine available to buy alongside other cultural stalls.

Cabinet Member for Community Development‚ Co-operative and Social Enterprise, Councillor Bradbury said, “It’s great to see that Japan Day at the Central Library is returning this year following such a positive response last year. The hard work and dedication that the teams put in to organising this event has shown as the library even won an award for their efforts.

It’s inspiring to see local community partnerships working together to create an event that allows visitors to have the opportunity to observe and have a taste of Japanese traditions. With over 3,000 visitors attending last year, I hope that this year proves to be more successful than ever”
