JCB Marathon Fundraiser Kicks off Journey with Wrexham Concert

Esmor Singing Welsh national anthum with the JCBA prolific fundraiser travelling from John O’Groats to Land’s End on a JCB to raise money for the visually impaired is kicking off the journey with a concert in Wrexham.

The Wrexham Concert of Voices at Glyndŵr University’s William Aston Hall on Tuesday May 27 has been organised by Esmor Davies, who is aiming to complete the challenge in 6 weeks.

The event, which starts at 7.30pm, is one of 10 fundraising concerts ahead of Esmor’s 2,200 mile trip at the end of July.

It will feature Rhos Orpheous Male Voice Choir, North Wales-based ladies choir Cor Llewyrch, baritone Twm Tegid and mezzo soprano Faye Anglesea.

Esmor will be launching a song called Garden of Love on the night. Written by Robat Arwyn and Robin Llwyd ab Owain, it tells the story of a couple who were visually  impaired and found it very hard to accept, but after visiting a Sensory Garden were inspired for life.

Starting on July 26, Esmor will travel from Scotland to JCB’s factory in Uttoxeter, through to South Wales, finishing at Land’s End.

He plans to take in towns and cities including Chester, Llandudno, Cardiff, Wooton Bassett and Plymouth along the way.

Esmor said: “I came up with the idea of travelling on a JCB while I was sitting in the living room one night and it really snowballed from there.

“JCB came on board and have provided us with a vehicle which has been painted with a Welsh dragon. It looks fantastic.

“Initially we were going to do the concerts on the tour but decided travelling around on the JCB and stopping off at so many places would keep us busy enough.

“The concert in Wrexham is really important for us as it will be the place where we launch the new song and we hope as many people turn out to support us as possible.”

Proceeds from the JCB Marathon will go towards the Blind Veterans UK charity, based in North Wales, and Guide Dog Training School, located in Forfar, Scotland.

Tickets for the Wrexham concert cost £10 and are available from the Glyndŵr University Box Office online at Glyndwr.ac.uk/events or by calling 01978 293293.
