Welsh Labour’s Jeff Cuthbert is marking the anniversary of free prescriptions and a host of other popular Assembly schemes that have helped people in Caerphilly.
Jeff Cuthbert said Labour-led Governments in Wales had made the country a fairer and more affordable place to live in since 1999.
Friday April 1st 2011 marks:
- The fourth anniversary of free prescriptions
- Nine years of concessionary bus travel
- Three years of free parking at almost every hospital in Wales.
- And a decade of free entry to eight National Museum and Galleries of Wales sites
Jeff Cuthbert said: “The introduction of free prescriptions means no one is forced to choose between treatment and basic needs like food, water or keeping warm.
“Whether it’s free bus travel for pensioners, free parking at hospitals or free access to museums, Welsh Labour is committed to providing schemes that make a real difference to quality of life.
“The Tories are desperate to do away with many of these popular schemes – and have already pledged to re-introduce prescriptions charges – a glorified ‘tablet tax.’ The Tory-Led Coalition Government are cutting the Winter Fuel Allowance and I believe that this is a step towards abolishing it altogether.”
“Given these Tory attacks the people of Wales should be alarmed that Plaid Cymru has failed to rule out a coalition with the Welsh Tories. Only a vote for Welsh Labour on May 5th will guarantee these schemes will stay.”
Welsh Labour Leader Carwyn Jones said: “I’m proud that Welsh Labour has changed the lives of people in Wales for the better.
“At a time when the ConDem coalition is dismantling the economy Welsh Labour is determined to stand up for Wales and continue to deliver positive policies for all.
“A vote for Labour will mean families in Wales will benefit from improved access to GP surgeries, extra school funding and more children taking part in the Flying Start programme.”
