Jeff Welcomes Carwyn to Caerphilly

Labour candidate Jeff Cuthbert recently welcomed Welsh Labour leader Carwyn Jones to Caerphilly town centre to meet local people in the Easter sun.

Jeff and Carwyn – the man that a recent survey found Plaid and Lib Dem supporters think is the best man to be Wales’ First Minister – walked from Castle Court Shopping Centre, past the Castle and up to Caerphilly bus and train station.

Jeff Cuthbert said: “’I was delighted to welcome Welsh Labour leader Carwyn Jones to Caerphilly town centre recently. We met a number of local residents, shoppers and traders who were fully supportive of Welsh Labour’s commitment to standing up for Wales in the face of Tory cuts.

“Welsh Labour has pledged to maintain our extensive business rate relief scheme as well as the Tidy Towns initiative to keep places like Caerphilly clean. We have pledged to put 500 more Police Community Support Officers on Wales’ streets to help police officers in the vital work that they do keeping our communities safe. We have also pledged a ‘Welsh Jobs Fund’ which will help boost our employment and skills levels so that we can strengthen our economy in the long run.

“Only Labour can stand up for Wales in the face of Tory cuts – Plaid and the Tories are only interested in stitching up a coalition deal like they want to stitch up the people of Caerphilly.”

Carwyn Jones said: “It has been a pleasure to campaign alongside Jeff in Caerphilly. We are getting a great response in the seat and a lot of that is down to Jeff’s hard work over the last eight years as an Assembly Member, but we are taking nothing for granted.

“People in Caerphilly realise that only Labour will stand up for Wales against the unfair cuts of the Tory-led Government in Westminster. We need a strong Labour team in the Assembly to implement our programme of Government and re-electing Jeff in Caerphilly is vital to make that happen.”
