Jenny Willott, the Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, has congratulated the community website RoathCardiff.net for winning £9900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a new project to mark the centenary of the First World War.
The project called, ‘Roath Remembers: rediscovering community stories from 1914-1918’, is an online collection of stories, photographs and wartime documents of the Roath community and how life was lived 100 years ago. It will record in digital format any stories and wartime items, and display them online for people to learn about wartime heritage of Roath and nearby areas.
“Roath Remembers” is working with Albany Primary School, which was used as a military hospital during the War, the Roath Local History Society and The Cardiff Story Museum. The team will be holding drop-in events for members of the public to tell their stories, and also to help people access their own World War One history online.

“I am delighted that RoathCardiff.net has received this award from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project will allow us all to have a lasting online commemoration of the First World War and help us pay tribute to those from the area who served in the armed forces or supported the war effort from here in Cardiff.

This is a really interesting project that can teach all of us about how local residents lived during the First World War and remember those who fought and died.”
