The Ospreys may be flying high at the top of the Magners League table, but coach Sean Holley knows his side are there to be shot at as the race for top four Play-Off places hots up.
With five away games in their seven remaining fixtures the Welsh region will have to do it the hard way if they are to hold onto one of the two coveted places at the top of the regular league table that will guarantee home draws in the semi-finals.
“We’re aiming for a top-two finish and we’re in a good position right now. But we know we’re there to be shot at,” said Holley.
“We’ve got five away games to go and it’s going to be a difficult run in for us. We went to Connacht, Glasgow and the Scarlets in the first half of the season and won and away form is going to be critical in the run-in to the play-offs.
“We need to pick up points away from home and we certainly want to improve on our recent home performance against Connacht, which wasn’t good. Having said that, Connacht are always a difficult team to play against and we’ve now done the double over them this season.
“The title race is the tightest I’ve ever known and if you’re in fifth or sixth it still isn’t over. The new Play-Off system means that every game now is vitally important.”
The Ospreys head to Edinburgh this weekend looking to complete the double over last season’s runners-up.
Wales coach Warren Gatland has released a number of Welsh Squad members back to the region and fit-again British & Irish Lions scrum-half Mike Phillips could get his first start since October.
