A ‘Jobkit’ to help people overcome barriers to finding a job has been launched by South West Workways.
It has been specially designed to help clients achieve their employment goals and includes tips on CV writing, filling in application forms and interview techniques.
The Jobkit can also be used to monitor their jobsearching and will be an information source running alongside support and advice sessions from Workways’ employer liaison officers.
Michael James from Glynneath was one of the first clients to benefit from the Jobkit. He said, “I was able to work through the sections and picked up some useful tips. I was offered a mock interview by Workways staff and this proved invaluable during a recent interview with Virgin Media. The interview went really well and I started work in January.”
Marjorie Bartlett, Workways Regional Project Manager, said, “The Jobkit is an excellent tool that will assist Workways clients to address all areas of jobsearch activity.
“Each client will be encouraged to complete tasks that are related to their own individual job goals. The support sessions will ensure individuals are competent in applying for any job vacancy, whether it is now or in the future.”
Council Leader, Ali Thomas, added, “The team at South West Workways are doing a great job supporting clients to develop their skills and make the most of opportunities available to them.
“Matching local people with businesses will help them gain vital experience needed to find long term employment.
“It is always pleasing to hear of success stories and I’m confident the Jobkit will be an invaluable asset for jobseekers.”
South West Workways is a project led by Neath Port Talbot in collaboration with Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and the City and County of Swansea, the South West Workways project is backed with almost £17 million from the European Social Fund through the Welsh Assembly Government.
