John Davies, who is the Honourable Lifeboat Treasurer for the Barry Dock lifeboat, has recently been presented a Gold Bar to add to his Gold Badge. The award is given for long and distinguished service and is one of the highest RNLI awards given to shore-based volunteers.
John has served the Royal National Lifeboat Institution as the Hon Treasurer for the Barry Dock lifeboat for an incredible 43 years.
In John’s words his 43 years have also included PR, events organiser, marquee erector, negotiator, Deputy Launching Authority, Treasurer and dogsbody!
During this time he has seen nine coxwaines,11 mechanics,seven chairmen, six Honourable Secretary,one Lifeboat Press Officer,one Lifeboat Visits Officer and one Lifeboat Operation Manager.
There have been an impressive number of lifeboat classes which include two Watsons, five Waverleys, nine Aruns and four Trents.
It was with great pleasure that one of the Royal National Lifeboat Institutions’ Inspectors, Andy Hurley, was able to present John with his Gold Bar and certificate.
