John Lewis announces Beating Bowel Cancer as its Charity of the Year 2010

John Lewis Department Stores has chosen Beating Bowel Cancer as its charity of the year for 2010. Donations and funds raised by John Lewis will go towards supporting the charity’s invaluable work in raising awareness of bowel cancer promoting early diagnosis and providing support for bowel cancer patients and their families.

Throughout 2010 John Lewis Partners (staff) will take part in a range of activities to raise funds for Beating Bowel Cancer. The charity will also benefit from John Lewis’s strong regional presence across the UK, with branches fundraising on both a local and national scale.

Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer – claiming 16,000 lives each year – and John Lewis is aiming to raise awareness of the disease, as well as much needed funds for the charity.

Liz Mihell, managing director of John Lewis Cardiff, comments, “We are really pleased to be supporting the work of Beating Bowel Cancer, especially as so many of our Partners and customers may know someone affected by this disease. Not only do we hope to raise valuable funds, but it’s important that we also help to increase awareness, which could literally save lives.”

Hilary Whittaker, Chief Executive, Beating Bowel Cancer comments, “We are delighted that John Lewis has chosen Beating Bowel Cancer as its Charity of the Year 2010. It is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of bowel cancer and highlight the work that we do. We are very much looking forward to working closely with everyone at John Lewis and hope it will be an enjoyable and memorable experience for all.”
