Commenting on today’s launch of the Assembly Government’s Creating an Active Wales action plan, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:
“If ministers actually succeed in getting more people to engage in exercise then that will clearly have broader health benefits.
“But this is not the first time the Assembly Government has tried to get people to take more exercise and previous attempts have failed to get to grips with obesity, particularly among young people.
“The Assembly Government launched a Wales-wide consultation on obesity as long ago as 2007, while ministers funded a scheme to tackle childhood obesity this time last year.
“We need a joined-up public health strategy that includes planning, housing, leisure, and nutrition which ensures people see exercise as a normal part of their daily routine.”
