Cross Keys scored a convincing 41-10 win at Pandy Park on Saturday over an Aberavon side who gave their worst display of the season in the Principality Premiership.
Whilst there wasn’t much between the sides in the first half, three quick tries at the start of the second half meant it was mission impossible for the Wizards thereafter.
Cross Keys outside half Steffan Jones kicked three penalties in the opening quarter before Aberavon got on the scoreboard when prop Lloyd Howell scored. Outside half Matthew Jarvis added the extras to make the score 9-7 to Cross Keys.
The Wizards were dealt a blow soon after when flanker Chris Davies was yellow carded. Jones kicked the resultant penalty and whilst Jarvis reduced the deficit with a penalty of his own, Jones’s fifth penalty in injury time helped the homeside to a 15-10 interval lead.
The Gwent side made a great start to the second half scoring 19 points in just 12 minutes while Aberavon were reduced once more to 14 players due to the sin binning of James King.
Wing Jamie Davies, prop Richard Cornock and lock Dan Hodge made the most of some poor tackling to score tries for the homeside while Jones kicked two conversions.
Although the Wizards put a stop to the scoring for a while, and Cross Keys had Hodge yellow carded, the homeside were not to be denied a bonus point – in the 78th minute of the game Davies scored his second try. Jones’s conversion added the icing to the cake as he took his total up to 21 points.
