MP for Clwyd West, David Jones, is encouraging local charities to take full advantage of the “JustTextGiving” platform, as a way of opening up charitable donation to a more technologically friendly generation.
“JustTextGiving”, developed by Vodafone on a not-for-profit basis, is a free service that allows charities and individuals to raise money via text and provides a free, quick and convenient means of fundraising. Donations can be made by customers from any network, and gift aid can also be claimed on each donation.
David Jones said:
“People are more likely to donate money to charity if they are able to do so conveniently and quickly. Text services should encourage charitable donations, particularly during a period in which mobile technology, and interest in it, is advancing so quickly.
“It is very encouraging indeed to note that a number of local charities are already using this technology, and they should be applauded for broadening the reach of their fundraising initiatives in this way.
“I would invite local charities, which are not currently using this service, to consider adopting it as a means of helping them to raise more money for local causes.”
