David Jones, MP for Clwyd West, welcomes Government proposals for tougher community punishment which will see offenders forced to remain confined to their homes for longer, keeping the streets safer.
Extending the maximum daily curfew time from 12 to 16 hours, and the period for which they can be imposed from six to 12 months, will better protect communities and ensure offenders face proportionate punishments to discourage them from reoffending. Curfews not only restrict liberty but they can bring order to chaotic lives.
These new proposals are part of the Government’s plans to reform sentencing and tackle the root causes of offending.
David Jones said:
“Tougher curfew conditions will keep offenders in my constituency off the streets for longer, and keep them away from situations that could lead to further localised trouble.
These proposals will help to keep local communities safe, whilst efforts are being made to deter offenders from reoffending through appropriate rehabilitation programmes, and steps are taken to remove some of the factors which might otherwise result in life of crime”.
