Clwyd West MP, David Jones, has welcomed the announcement by Home Office minister David Hanson that the “legal high” mephedrone is to be classified as a Class B controlled drug.
David Jones, who has campaigned for the classification of mephedrone, also urged the minister to look into the activities of the Canadian financial services company, AlertPay, which processes the majority of online transactions for the sale and purchase of mephedrone.
David Jones commented:
“I am pleased that the Government has taken this action after hearing the advice of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs.
“I hope that the order banning mephedrone will be processed quickly and in the meantime I urge the Government to alert the Canadian authorities to the role AlertPay plays in this dangerous trade.”
