Music maestro Jools Holland is playing a gig in Swansea in the summer.
The pianist is heading to the city’s Singleton Park on Sunday August 8 with his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra for a night of boogie-woogie.
It’ll be the star’s first appearance in Swansea since 1999 and he’ll be joined on stage by Alison Moyet and Ruby Turner.
Allison Moyet was the lead singer of hit 1980s group Yazoo and also released hit solo singles such as All Cried Out and Invisible. Ruby Turner is a British soul singer, songwriter and actress.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “It’s a real coup that Swansea has managed to attract Jools Holland for a summer gig in one of our most famous outdoor venues.
“We’ve become a city that’s equipped to hold the very best concerts and this performance follows on from the appearance of bands such as The Who at the Liberty Stadium.
“Singleton Park is an ideal location for this type of event and we look forward to welcoming residents and visitors of all ages to Swansea for this one-off performance. This adds another great event to the Swansea Bay Summer Festival line-up.”
Keith Louch, Director of IML Concerts, said: “I’m delighted to be presenting Jools in Swansea. It’s going to be an exciting evening with some really great guests and I’m certain the audience will really enjoy this tremendous show.”
Chris Bailey, Event Manager of IML Concerts, said: “This will be a picnic-style, family concert and we encourage the audience to bring their own chairs, rugs, cushions and picnics.”
Special priced £15 tickets are available for children under 16 and entry for under 5s is free with no ticket required.
The Rhythm and Blues Orchestra has evolved from its initial seeds in 1985 when Jools and his drummer Gilson Lavis began touring as a duo into a disciplined 17-piece band capable of selling out all year all over Britain and Europe.
Canterbury Cathedral, Kew Gardens, the Glastonbury Festival and the Albert Hall are among the venues and events the orchestra has played.
Gates open at 5pm with the support artists on stage from 6.30pm. A grand firework finale will round-off proceedings.
