A little Bollywood was on show at the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod thanks to a classical Kathak North Indian dancer and two of her students.
Kajal Sharma, 51, who moved to Chester from her native Agra the home of India’s famous monument to love, The Taj Mahal, 20 years ago, is a trained classical dancer who has been performing since she was three.
In fact Kajal has represented India by performing in 32 countries and dancing before 46 presidents and prime ministers as well as royalty in the form of Prince Charles and the Queen of Thailand.
And she and her two students, Miranda McCab, 18, and Cristine Williams, 23, both of Birkenhead, Wirral, had festival going children up on their feet and joining in the dance as the Llangollen circular stage was turned into a Bollywood set.
Kajal, whose husband is the proprietor of the Belgrade Hotel in City Road, Chester, says it’s always an honour to be invited to demonstrate Kathak Classical dance to Llangollen Eisteddfod crowds.
She said: “We performed at Llangollen last year and really enjoy engaging with young children and showing them how we dance. The children have so much enthusiasm.
“We held a great session on the first day of the Eisteddfod and everyone had a great time.”
