Kids get jolly with hockey

Angela Miles the hockey development officer for Pembrokeshire, has recently been busy helping to introduce the game to the county’s primary schools.

Together with coaches from the Fishguard and Goodwick hockey club, she has helped the game spread to the Fishguard and St. David’s family of primary schools which culminated in 50 youngsters attending a ‘fun centre’ promoting the sport.

Two weeks ago Fishguard and Goodwick hockey club started their own ‘fun centre’ for boys and girls aged between seven and 11. Over 30 attended the centre which will run for six weeks.

To help them get started, the club was presented with a Dragon Sport hockey bag and hockey balls.

Angela said: “I am delighted to see the club taking over the fun centre. They have worked hard over the past two years recruiting coaches with funding received from the ‘Community Chest’.”

Angela is now working with coaches from Sport Pembrokeshire introducing hockey into the Haverfordwest family of schools and a ‘fun centre’ was held on the astroturf pitch at Sir Thomas Picton School on Monday (17th May). It was headed by Roger Middleton, a Level Three national league coach.
