Kids set to go wild at camp

Young people are set to enjoy a wide range of activities at Pembrokeshire’s second Wildcamp.

30 youngsters are taking part in the week-long diversionary activity scheme organised by Safer Pembrokeshire.

The participants will stay at Castlemartin, and each day will undertake activities put on by different organisations, with evenings dedicated to educational inputs.

The action-packed week, from July 24th to 30th, kicks off with a day with the 14th Signals Regiment at Castlemartin, and will include team building exercises, and various challenges.

Further activities during the week include sessions with Bluestone, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Sport Pembrokeshire, Dyfed Powys Police, the RNLI, Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre, the Darwin Centre and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority.

Alison Rogers, of Safer Pembrokeshire, said: “All of the activities are intended to educate and challenge the young people and widen their experience.

“We aim to help them become more aware of how their behaviour affects others and deter them from crime and anti-social behaviour.

“We specifically involve young adults who need guidance and support through challenging times.”

The evenings will include talent nights as well as presentations on sexual health, drugs and alcohol.

Miss Rogers added: “As well as improving their confidence and widening their experience, the evening sessions allow us to provide vital messages and awareness for this age group.”

On Friday 30th July there will be a presentation ceremony at Bluestone, where the achievements of the young people will be recognised.

This year’s Wildcamp has received sponsorship from Alstom Power Ltd, Milford Haven Port Authority, Bluestone and Haverfordwest Ladies Circle.
