Kirsty Williams comments on problems facing deep rural areas

Commenting ahead of today’s debate on the report into Deep Rural Areas, Kirsty Williams, Welsh Lib Dem leader, said:

‘This report shows how many rural communities have been damaged by the loss of local services such as post offices. Most people still think of the post office as the heart of the village, and the government’s closure plans continue to deprive people in rural areas of access to basic services.

‘The government must support rural communities in every way it can – especially by making sure that broadband services are extended to deep rural areas. Broadband is a vital lifeline for small businesses in rural areas, and at present broadband in many parts of Wales is completely unfit for the 21st century.’
