There are less than two weeks left to see An Explosive Combination: Coal Mining in North Wales, the exhibition at Bersham Heritage Centre that tells the amazing story of coal mining in the Denbighshire and Flintshire coalfields.
The exhibition has been a great success as witnessed by the overflowing ‘coal mining memories’ section of the gallery. However, all good things must come to an end and the exhibition closes on October 31st, so this is the last chance to see the exhibition.
As part of the final fortnight, museum staff are holding two drop-in days for families at Bersham Heritage Centre:
Sunday 25th October 12noon – 4.0pm The Big Draw at Bersham a free workshop where children, inspired by the historic North Wales Miners Association banner, can get to design their own miners’ banner to take home. FREE.
Tuesday 27th October 2.0pm – 4.30pm Down the Mine – a special session for children aged 6 and over where they can find out how children their own age worked underground, and how, if they were lucky, they went to school in the evening and on Sunday!! FREE.
Alan Watkin, Chief Leisure, Libraries & Culture Officer said: ‘This year’s coal mining exhibition at Bersham Heritage Centre has been very popular. With visitor figures up over 25% on last year, it shows how many people in the local community are interested in Wrexham’s industrial heritage.’
Steve Grenter, Heritage Services Manager, added ‘The exhibition has to come down so if you have not got round to visiting yet, don’t put it off any longer. We are offering two events especially for younger visitors over the half term, and they’ll be a great way for grandparents and parents to introduce children to their own heritage.’
