Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has welcomed the latest figures from the Welsh Government’s flagship employment scheme.
Monthly statistics provide information on the number of job opportunities created and filled from the Jobs Growth Wales scheme and as of the middle of September, the programme has created almost 8,700 job opportunities with nearly 6,900 of these positions now filled.
The latest figures also reveal almost 250 job opportunities have been created in Wrexham alone, with 237 positions currently occupied and set to continue.
Jobs Growth Wales started in April 2012 and initially intended to create 4,000 job opportunities a year for 16-24 year olds throughout Wales. The programme is designed to tackle a key issue that young people face in their search for work, namely, how they can secure the relevant work experience employers require when they are recruiting.
The Jobs Growth Wales scheme provides young people with a job opportunity for a six month period. The intention and overall aim of the programme is that the additional and newly created positions will be sustained by the employers after the six months is complete. As the positions are newly created, the posts will not only offer job opportunities for unemployed young people but also boost the economy and help Welsh businesses to grow.
Wrexham AM Lesley Griffiths said:
“Jobs Growth Wales has undoubtedly proved to be a great success and continues to go from strength to strength.”
“The Welsh Government’s flagship employment programme is creating jobs and enabling growth in difficult economic times.”
“Although there is still a long way to go, the latest statistics prove the scheme is flourishing and making a difference to young people’s lives, both in Wrexham and across Wales.”
