Flintshire’s Artsfest ’10 will be officially launched on Friday, 22 January at 12.30pm in the Haydn Rees Room, Clwyd Theatr Cymru.
The Chairman of Flintshire County Council, Councillor Colin Legg, will host a reception to launch this year’s exciting programme. The organisers have endeavoured to build on the growing success of the Festival in 2009 by planning an Artsfest which will encompass all the major art forms with an emphasis on encouraging the development of the Arts in Flintshire. Tenor Rhys Meirion will also be in attendance at the launch.
This year’s Artsfest has attracted performers of the highest calibre, with the focus on high quality arts presentation. One of the many highlights of Artsfest’10 is Edward Fox in an ‘Evening with Anthony Trollope’ in the Anthony Hopkins Theatre. The Hallé Choir will be performing at St.Mary’s Church, Mold and acclaimed poet Simon Armitage will be leading a half day writing workshop during the afternoon at the St. David’s Park Hotel and giving a reading in the Clwyd Room, Clwyd Theatr Cymru in the evening.
Through the medium of Welsh, one of Wales’ biggest rock acts, Bryn Fôn and Band will be performing at the Springfield Hotel and tenor Rhys Meirion will be appearing in a bilingual concert at Capel Bethesda, Mold. William Roache, who plays Ken Barlow in Coronation Street will be giving an insight into his experiences on the ‘Street’. For jazz enthusiasts Scott Hamilton, a universally acclaimed tenor sax player, will be performing at Clwyd Theatr Cymru.
Mike Peters (pictured), best known as lead singer with one of Wales’ most famous music exports, The Alarm, is joined on stage with performers from Flintshire’s music scene in the Anthony Hopkins Theatre at Clwyd Theatr Cymru and the Flintshire County Music School will be giving a concert at Hawarden High School. The Festival is also pleased to welcome back from the Antiques Roadshow’s Eric Knowles.
Many other events have been arranged as part of the Artsfest including visual artist Katie A. Scarlett who will work with pupils in some Flintshire schools culminating in an exhibition in the Education Gallery at the Theatre. There will also be a fantastic opportunity to see beautiful and intriguing work by the members of the Flintshire Visual Arts and Craft Network. The exhibition in the Holywell Art and Craft Mill will comprise of various skills and techniques from painting to quilting, jewellery making to woodturning.
