Le Bon gig kicks-off gallery winter fun

Le BonFestive workshops, live music and fascinating discussions are being launched at Swansea’s Glynn Vivian Art Gallery as part of the attraction’s winter activities programme.

This season’s events at the Alexandra Road gallery begin on Friday (December 11) at 3.30pm with Welsh indie-electronica-folk singer and songwriter Cate Le Bon playing a free gig.

Le Bon has performed at Glastonbury, Latitude and the Green Man Festival and her debut album was named in MOJO magazine’s top 50 albums.

She’s also featured on the Neon Neon album penned by Gruff Rhys of the Super Furry Animals.

Her appearance at the Glynn Vivian is part of the gallery’s new Free:30 Sessions- a new initiative providing free music gigs from local and national bands. Upcoming gigs include Euros Childs, the Spencer MacGarry Season and Barefoot Dance of The Sea.

The run-up to Christmas at the attraction will also see community groups and choirs gathering around a 20-foot Christmas tree to serenade audiences with a variety of yuletide melodies.

Lots of free festive arts and craft activities for adults and children are taking place from Saturday December 19 to Wednesday December 23.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery has become an attraction that features fun and activities for the whole family.

“The selection of live music, workshops and discussions complements the rich range of artwork on display and this ensures all ages and interests are catered for. The Glynn Vivian experience is as entertaining as it is educational.”
