Leanne Urges Adoption of Three Point Plan to Turn Wales Around

Leanne Wood AMPlaid leader Leanne Wood has outlined three key points which could turn Wales into an example of excellence in public services and sustainable economic growth.

The Party of Wales leader Leanne Wood outlined three key Plaid Cymru commitments that would begin the process of improving Wales’ economic situation, health service and educational outcomes quickly.

She said that these three matters need to be addressed with urgency and she said that Plaid Cymru has a clear plan to do that.

The Party of Wales leader Leanne Wood said:

“It is unforgivable that Wales is being used to score political points. We should not accept our country being used as a political punch bag by the Westminster parties.

“Plaid Cymru has a three-point plan to begin the process of turning Wales into an example of excellence in public services and sustainable economic growth.

“Firstly, Wales needs an economic kick-start. There’s no reason not to adopt and implement an ambitious and comprehensive procurement policy that has the potential to create up to 48,000 new jobs, provide new apprenticeship places and lock more money into the local economy.

“Secondly, people are losing faith in Labour’s leadership of our health service here in Wales. Plaid Cymru calls again for a 1,000 new doctors to be recruited to fill gaps in our hospitals and for a merger of health and social care to end bed blocking and above all to guarantee a seamless package of care for patients.

“Thirdly, parents and teachers know that in banding schools has had no impact on improving standards and outcomes for pupils. As well as liberating excellent schools and teaches from extensive inspection and scrutiny, Plaid Cymru wants the swift devolution of teachers’ pay and conditions so the Welsh Government can target incentives for the best teachers to teach in the schools where most improvement is needed.

“It’s time our government accepted the problems we have, instead of denying them and for Welsh politics to have an injection of urgency and ambition. Continuation of the status quo should not be an option.”
