Plaid’s Leanne Wood received the most nominations from constituencies and branches in her bid to lead the party.
At the close of nominations, the AM for South Wales Central secured 14 nominations from constituencies Wrecsam, Swansea East, Montgomery, Gower and Cardiff South as well as from branches such as Burry Port, Neath and Bro Ingli in Pembrokeshire.
Numerous high profile party figures have also backed Ms Wood such as South Wales East AM Lindsay Whittle, Bethan Jenkins AM for South Wales West, former Plaid chief executive Gwenllian Lansdown Davies, Caerphilly council leader Allan Pritchard and former MP Adam Price.
Leanne Wood’s campaign manager Jonathan Edwards, MP for Dinefwr and Carmarthen East, said: “We are very pleased Leanne has received such strong support from party members all over the country.
“She’s had fantastic support from some high profile, prominent party figures in the last month, but to have this backing from such a wide section of the grassroots of Plaid is more important.
“Over the past month Leanne has tried to speak to as many Plaid Cymru members and supporters as possible. The volume and breadth of these nominations reflects the wide range of people who are now ready and willing to work for a new Wales.
“People all over Wales have signed up to the vision she has outlined – for a successful, more equal economy based on values which put people first.
Leanne Wood added: “I’m humbled to have had so much support. I will continue to visit members up and down the country over the coming weeks to present my case for the future direction of Plaid and for ‘real independence’ for Wales.”
