When it comes to talking politics Coleg Gwent students now have the advantage of speaking directly to one of the authors of a best-selling politics textbook.
Professor Russell Deacon, who teaches A Level Government and Politics students at Coleg Gwent’s Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone, recently had his latest chapter on devolution published in the updated eighth edition of Politics UK.
The book, edited by Professor Bill Jones and Lord Phillip Norton, provides students with an introduction to British politics at A Level and undergraduate level.
Professor Deacon’s chapter examines the way that politics in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland has rapidly changed over the last 15 years.
He said:
“Students studying Government and Politics go on to study politics but also a wide range of different occupations ranging from journalism to retail management.
“Knowing how politics and government are changing in Wales can be vital for working in many different areas. When I first starting writing on devolution, politics outside of England was just evolving. Over the past few years, however, it has taken off at a rapid pace. This has often left students struggling to keep up with the changes.
“This latest publication on devolution brings students right up to date. It covers topic areas such as Wales’ new primary law making powers, as well as the independence referendum in Scotland. This means that students are better able to get to grips with what is happening now in British politics.”
