Special postcards publicising the Balance your Bobbies initiative are being distributed across the force area in a bid to further promote the scheme.
‘Balance your Bobbies’ is a new way of giving the people of North Wales a greater say in how their community is policed. People can take part by logging onto the force or Authority website and choose which issues, like anti social behaviour and car crime, they want the police to focus their efforts.
The scheme – believed to be the first of its kind in the UK, is the joint idea of North Wales Police and the Police Authority, was launched at the National Eisteddfod in Bala back in August 2009.
“The postcards are just another way of us further promoting the scheme in our communities, said Ian Davies, North Wales Police’s Citizen Focus Programme Manager.
“This is a new way of the public being able to engage with North Wales Police and help us balance the resources of police in their area.
“Since the interactive scheme went live on the web back in November, figures show that visible policing; speeding or dangerous drivers and anti-social behaviour have been flagged up as areas of concern.
He added: “Hopefully even more people will now cast their votes and let us know where we should be focusing our priorities.”
Residents can sign up to take part by logging on to the website, http://www.balanceyourbobbies.com/ which can also be accessed via the Force or the Police Authority website.
By inserting their post code or clicking on a ward-by-ward map, people can indicate their preferences in their own neighbourhood by using on-screen slide bars.
Participants can vote once a month and the system does not allow anybody to allocate more than 100 per cent of the available resources.
At the end of the month the local inspector will get a report revealing how many people voted, what the local average is and how statistically significant it is.
The postcards will be distributed via your local Neighbourhood Policing Team. If you would like further information, contact a member of your team on 101, or 0845 607 1001 (Welsh line) or 0845 607 1002 (English line).
Contact details for individual CBMs and PCSOs are also available via the force website – http://www.north-wales.police.uk/
