Lifeboat helps injured woman stuck on sands

St David’s RNLI Inshore Lifeboat was launched on Sunday May 2 at 2:22pm to the aid of a female in her mid 20s with a suspected broken ankle.

The incident happened at Porth Melgan Bay where St David’s’ RNLI Lifeboat crew worked in conjunction with St David’s and Fishguard Coastguard teams, RNLI lifeguards and paramedics from Wales Air Ambulance to assist the young woman. Two members of the RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew landed on the beach and administered Entonox to alleviate the woman’s pain.

The RNLI lifeguards from Whitesand Bay were also quick to respond to the incident. Both of the RNLI’s teams, the lifeboat crew and lifeguards, worked together to assist the young woman who was in great pain.

It was decided to make use of the Wales Air Ambulance and airlift her to Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.

All teams were then released from the incident with the inshore lifeboat rehousing at 3:40pm.
