Anglesey youngsters are celebrating after bringing home a national award.
The Youth Excellence Awards, held in Cardiff recently, are known as the Oscars for Youth Work.
The Llais Ni project won the Participation Award for research under taken on an a number of areas important to young people, including schools, youth clubs, leisure activities and transport services on the island.
Their winning research was undertaken in partnership with the Anglesey Youth Service and Young Farmers’ Clubs.
It greatly impressed the Children’s Commissioner for Wales, Keith Towler, when youngsters held a conference to present their findings at the County Council Chamber in Llangefni in September 2009.
Llais Ni members were presented with the award at Cardiff’s SWALEC Stadium during a ceremony hosted by Welsh television presenters Jason Mohammad and Sarra Elgan.
Llais Ni Development Officer, Bethan Williams, congratulated the youngsters for bringing a national award back to Anglesey.
She added, “This is a great achievement and one of which they can all be really proud.”
Llais Ni was established in 2008 in partnership with the Isle of Anglesey County Council and Young Farmers’ Clubs.
The project works with children and young people to ensure that their voices are heard on the matters which are important to them.
