Improvements in problems at a North Wales landfill site have been welcomed by an Assembly Member.
Following complaints from a number of constituents, Darren Millar, Assembly Member for Clwyd West, organised a public meeting in February to discuss community concerns over Llanddulas landfill. Since the meeting, the Environment Agency has improved the way it monitors the site and now keeps local residents informed about activities at the facility via a regular newsletter. The changes have resulted in a significant reduction in the number of complaints.
Darren Millar said:
“The improvements at Llanddulas landfill site are certainly welcome and I’m very pleased with the progress that has been made.
“According to the Environment Agency, there has been a sharp reduction in the number of complaints about the site with only 15 complaints since February. This compares to 101 complaints for the same period last year.
“Its great news that complaints have come down but we need to make sure this progress is maintained. I will continue to work closely with the Environment Agency, local residents and the owners of the site to ensure that problems for the local community are minimised.
“The next public meeting to check on progress will be held will be held in a few weeks time and I urge as many people as possible to attend.”
