Llandudno RNLI lifeboat launches to windsurfer

A windsurfer reported to be in difficulties on Monday afternoon (13 February) off Llandudno’s west shore managed to reach the safety of the beach unaided just as the resort’s RNLI inshore lifeboat arrived to rescue him.

The windsurfer, a man in his late 30’s, had experienced difficulty in raising his sail in the lively wind-over-tide conditions offshore; passers-by, seeing his apparent plight, had phoned Holyhead Coastguard, and as a result the RNLI crew was called out at 3.10 pm.

The RNLI lifeboat launched from the west shore minutes later, arriving on scene just as the man had managed to come ashore; the casualty was met by Llandudno coastguard, and checked over by the crew of an ambulance which had also been tasked to the scene. It transpired he did not need medical attention.
