Llŷn AONB Guided Walks – Discover History and Beauty on your Doorstep

The Llŷn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Unit has organised a series of guided walks ready for the autumn.

Four guided walks have been organised for September and October throughout some of the county’s most beautiful areas. So if you fancy enjoying some of Llŷn’s natural beauty, grab hold of your walking boots and come out and discover some of the area’s history and hidden treasures – you’ll even receive a cuppa!

The first walk take place in the Clynnog area on Saturday, 5 September, starting from the Uwchgwyrfai centre and then up to the National Nature Reserve at Tan-y-Bwlch fields. The walk will be setting off from Uwchgwyrfai at 10.30am, with the walk lasting approximately three hours – please note that this walk does involve a steep climb. You will need to bring a lunch with you, and please ensure that you wear sturdy walking boots and bring a rain coat. This walk will be conducted in Welsh, and tea and bara brith will be served for everyone at the Centre in Uwchgwyrfai at the end.

On Saturday, 12 September, a walk will be visiting the Mynytho and Nanhoron area. The three hour walk will look at the area’s history and that of the Nanhoron estate in the company of Dilwyn Williams of Gwynedd Council’s Archives Service. The route will also take us to Capel Newydd, the area’s first ever non-conformist Chapel. The meeting point is at Foel Gron car park in Mynytho at 10.30am.

Then on Saturday 19 September there will be a walk around Trefor and its surrounding area, with a cuppa available at Clwb y Twr along with a chance to see some old photographs of the area. The walk is suitable for families, with one steep hill. The meeting point will be at the beach car park.

The final walk will be held on Saturday, 3 October, where we will follow the coastal path around the Aberdaron area with a bit of local history and information about the coastal path. Meeting point outside the Ty Newydd in Aberdaron at 10.30am.

All of the guided walks will follow public footpaths and some sections on the road. You will need to wear sturdy walking boots, suitable clothing, and bring a lunch with you for each walk.
