An award winning local bus service will continue to operate between Swansea and Gower after the previous transport operator pulled out of Swansea.
Swansea Council has confirmed the popular Gower Explorer service won’t suffer any disruption to services after finding a replacement transport provider to run it.
The changes have been made after the previous bus operator Veolia confirmed they are pulling out of the city.
A total of 15 services have been saved after the Council conducted an emergency tendering procedure to maintain them. First Bus has been offered the contracts for the majority of bus services previously run by Veolia, including Gower Explorer. The remainder have been offered to South Wales Transport, Neath.
The Council recently confirmed it is investing £1.2 million into subsidising local bus services in Swansea.
The funding will assist local bus companies to operate local services that are not run commercially by individual bus operators.
John Hague, Cabinet Member for the Environment in Swansea Council, said: “We’re delighted to have now found replacement operators to take on these bus services.
“It was important that we organised these services quickly so that passengers on the services involved would not suffer any disruption to their journeys.
“Supporting local public transport services in Swansea is an important issue for the Council and one we are committed to.”
