Local families on song for new CD

A new CD of Bedtime songs and stories recorded by and for local families is being launched next week.

Special bedtime rhymetimes will be run at Denbigh Library on January 25 at 5pm and at Rhyl Library on January 31 at 5 pm to celebrate the launch.

The Bookstart Bedtime/Amser Gwely Dechrau Da CD has been produced by Denbighshire Library Service’s Bookstart team working in partnership with Coleg Llandrillo Denbigh. Families who attend Bookstart rhymes times in Denbigh and Rhyl Libraries joined up with Bookstart staff to sing the songs and read the stories.

The CD features familiar and new songs, rhymes and stories in both Welsh and English for families to share before bedtime.

Bethan Hughes of Denbighshire Library Service said: “Bookstart’s aim is to help parents develop their young children’s language and social skills through books and rhymes. Sharing a bedtime routine which includes songs and stories is so important for a child’s development and for family bonding. This CD will help families to share a special quiet time together.”

The CD will be given to families who attend Bookstart rhymetimes in libraries in Denbighshire and shared out to partner organisations working with families.

Bookstart in Denbighshire is delivered with support from the Welsh Government’s  Flying Start programme.
