Plaid Cymru AM Chris Franks has welcomed a cash injection for two local radio stations in his South Wales Central area.
GTFM in Pontypridd and Bro Radio in the Vale of Glamorgan are among six community radio stations to be awarded money by the Welsh Assembly Government.
Both stations will receive £17,941 from the Community Radio Fund which is open to stations that hold a five-year broadcast licence from Ofcom and are on-air.
The money is awarded on a competitive basis and is intended for covering the core costs of running a community radio station.
Mr Franks said: “Community radio is playing an increasingly important role in the lives of Welsh people and I am delighted that two stations in the Vale and the valleys are to benefit from the annual £100,000 fund.
“These stations not only provide a unique source of local news to listeners but also provide excellent experience for volunteers and, in some cases, employment. I hope the money is used to good effect to further improve what is already a valued service.”
The other four stations to be awarded grants are:
BRFM in Blaenau Gwent (£16,500)
Tudno FM in Llandudno (£15,175)
Afan FM in Neath Port Talbot (£14,500)
Calon FM in Wrexham (£17,941)
