Libraries in Neath Port Talbot are in the spotlight again this week.
Year 6 pupils from Ynysfach Primary School, Llansawel Art Group and John Rees from Resolven picked up prizes for being the local winners in a national libraries competition called ‘Express Yourself’.
Each won £50 in vouchers and will now go forward to the national final.
18 finalists will be chosen and then invited to a special awards ceremony in February at the Senedd in Cardiff.
Libraries right across Wales took part and the aim of the competition is to make people more aware of what their local library can offer.
People of all ages were given a chance to express themselves through a variety of media. They could write a poem, create a work of art or even perform a play.
“Libraries are at the heart of communities,” says Council Leader, Ali Thomas.
“Residents need to be aware of all the activities taking place in their local community.
“If people have not visited their library for a while they would not know that there is free access to the internet and IT training on offer at some libraries s well.
“I congratulate the winners and am pleased to see such an impressive response to the local library competition.”
